Tennoji Zoo is located in Tennoji Ward, Osaka City. It is one of Japan's oldest zoos and is perfect for family visits. Here are the main transportation options to help you get there easily!
From the City Center
Take the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line from Umeda or Namba to "Dobutsuen-mae Station," then walk about 5-7 minutes to the zoo’s main entrance. The ride takes about 15-20 minutes and costs 230-280 yen. Alternatively, take the JR Loop Line to "Tennoji Station," then walk about 10 minutes; the fare is around 180 yen. You can also take the Hankai Tramway to "Shin-Imamiya Station," then walk about 5 minutes.
From Kansai Airport
Take the JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service directly to "Tennoji Station," about 50 minutes, costing approximately 1,060 yen. Or take the Nankai Electric Railway to "Shin-Imamiya Station," about 45 minutes, costing about 920 yen, then walk about 5 minutes. Limousine buses also go to the Tennoji area, about 60 minutes, costing around 1,550 yen.
From Kyoto and Kobe
From Kyoto, take the JR Special Rapid Service to Osaka Station, then transfer to the Loop Line to "Tennoji Station," about 45 minutes, costing about 970 yen. From Kobe, take the JR Special Rapid Service to Osaka Station, then transfer to the Loop Line, about 40 minutes, costing about 810 yen.
Useful Tips
It’s recommended to check real-time schedules on Google Maps. The Osaka Amazing Pass offers unlimited subway rides and free zoo admission (9:30 AM–5:00 PM, closed Mondays, 500 yen for adults, 200 yen for junior and elementary students), which is a great deal! The zoo houses over 900 animal species, including elephants and lions. The park is not large, making it perfect for a half-day visit.
