About a 15-minute walk from Dotonbori, there is an elegant little shrine — Takatsu Shrine, with Takatsu Park right next to it. Both are local hidden gems for cherry blossom viewing. The stone stairway approach to the shrine and the surrounding park are lined with cherry trees, making it a small but beautiful spot to enjoy the blossoms with fewer crowds and a relaxing atmosphere.
Takatsu Shrine is dedicated to Emperor Nintoku and has a long history. It is said to have existed since the early days of Osaka Castle’s construction and is even mentioned in Japanese poetry, giving it a charmingly historic feel. It’s conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Tanimachi 9-chome Station, making it an easy place to visit for a boost of energy.
Next to it, Takatsu Park not only features cherry blossoms but also plum and apricot blossoms. It has plenty of playground equipment for children, making it a great spot for locals to let their kids run around, enjoy spring outings, and have picnics.
