🐋 A Day at Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan: Whale Sharks, Penguins & Summer Vibes☀️

If you’re in Osaka, one stop you shouldn’t miss is the Kaiyukan Aquarium, one of the largest in the world. Located in the Osaka Bay area, it’s easy to reach by subway (Osaka Metro Chuo Line, Osakako Station). Right across the plaza sits LEGOLAND Discovery Center Osaka, making the whole area a family-friendly spot worth exploring. Be ready for lines at the entrance in summer, but once inside, you’ll find the unique layout takes you from the top floor down as you circle around a giant central tank. The contrast is striking—it’s hot and sunny outside, but surprisingly chilly in some of the icy exhibits.

The highlight of my visit was catching the feeding of the two whale sharks, revealed behind curtains as staff guided them gracefully through the water. Watching these giants glide so close was unforgettable. Along the way, I stopped to admire playful dolphins, curious penguins, and the lazy sea lions stretched out across their pond as if enjoying an afternoon nap. Each floor feels immersive, showcasing different ocean habitats that keep you engaged as you descend deeper into the aquarium.

Before leaving, I couldn’t resist trying the orca-shaped ice cream, a fun and refreshing treat after hours of walking. Between the impressive exhibits, interactive moments, and the unique design of the building itself, Kaiyukan offers something for everyone—whether you’re traveling solo, with friends, or with family. It’s not just an aquarium visit, but one of the most memorable experiences you can have in Osaka.
