Come to Otaru Art Village, one of the most attractive literary secrets in the area! In this stained glass gallery located in the old Gaoqiao Warehouse, you will encounter British church stained glass windows from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, art treasures that have stood for hundreds of years and are full of historical stories.
Imagine that these glasses originally adorned the windows of Britain's stately churches, witnessing the prosperity of the Victorian era and the changes after World War I. As time went by, many churches in Britain were unfortunately destroyed, but these beautiful stained glass windows were miraculously preserved and eventually came to Otaru, Japan.
Walking into this museum, the sunlight shines on the walls through the stained glass, and the biblical stories unfold vividly in the light and shadow. Each piece of glass tells a touching story. This is not only a display of Western art, but also a fusion of the unique culture of Otaru Port. Walking quietly in this space is like stepping into the long river of history. Whether you are an art lover or a travel expert, you will be completely attracted by the atmosphere here.
To visit this fairytale place, please take the JR to Otaru Station, which is a 10-minute walk or a 3-minute taxi ride away. The museum is open from 9:30am to 5:00pm (May to October) and from 10:00am to 4:00pm (November to April). Don’t forget to enter 30 minutes early!
Whether you are alone or with friends, this is definitely an art paradise that will make you linger. Plan your trip now, the magic of stained glass is waiting for you!
