Our trip to Pengshui near Chongqing has come to a successful end! Before departure, I did quite a bit of research, and now I’m sharing my experience with friends who want to visit Pengshui.
We took the train from Chongqing North Station to Pengshui. The ticket price was very affordable, only 32.5 yuan per person, and the journey took about three hours. The train environment was decent. If you want to arrive faster, you can take the high-speed train, with departures from East Station, North Station, and West Station. Among these, East Station offers the lowest fare at 88 yuan, and it takes just one hour to get there. However, note that the train’s final stop is Pengshui Station, and after getting off, if you want to go to the county town, the bus ride takes about an hour. Taking a taxi is a bit tricky because it’s very hard to get a ride through any taxi-hailing platforms. Right after exiting the station, a group of people approached asking if we were going to the county town, which felt like unlicensed taxi soliciting. Our accommodation was about 11 to 12 kilometers from the station. The platform taxi fare was estimated at just over 20 yuan, but these people quoted 40 yuan. After some bargaining, we settled on 35 yuan. It was hot at the time, and we didn’t want to waste more time. These solicitors seem to have monopolized the taxi business, so I recommend choosing the high-speed train whenever possible. The train station is far from the county town, making taxis inconvenient and potentially overpriced; the high-speed rail station is close to the county town, with low taxi fares. On our return to the main city, a taxi from the county town to the high-speed rail station cost only a few yuan, and the high-speed rail station was brand new with excellent facilities.
For accommodation, we chose a homestay in the county town. There were three of us, and the homestay was spacious, about 120 square meters, costing only around 170 yuan, offering great value. The homestay faced the river, providing a nice environment. Compared to this, hotels in the county town were relatively expensive, so the homestay was our first choice. Around the homestay, takeout and snack shops were concentrated and very convenient. We tried the local heart-lung rice noodles and some kind of rolled dish (I don’t quite remember the exact name), and the taste was average. Although Pengshui is more than 200 kilometers from the main city, the weather was not cool.
On the second day, we went to Ayi River and Chiyou Jiuli City. Chiyou Jiuli City was close to where we stayed, but personally, I didn’t find it interesting. We just took a photo outside and left. The ticket price was not cheap; I think a 20 yuan cap on tickets would be more reasonable. Ayi River was worth visiting, but transportation from the county town to Ayi River was a bit troublesome. It was hard to find a direct route on the map, and taxi fares were high. For a distance of about ten-plus kilometers, the taxi app showed 60 yuan, and the driver said he had to cover the empty run cost. So, driving yourself is the best option for places like this. Here’s the key tip: I’m sharing a budget-friendly way to get to Ayi River. We took a taxi to Dahegou at Aohua Plaza, where there is a “Snack Busy” store. Right opposite the store, you can see a bus stop. For 8 yuan per person, you can take a direct bus to Ayi River, which is super cost-effective! The trip takes about half an hour, and there might be slight delays due to passenger drop-offs, but this price is very reasonable. After arriving at the scenic area, we chose to hike the entire way without taking the elevator. Actually, the hike wasn’t tiring; walking all the way down took about 20 minutes if you’re quick.
