Maya Bay, located on Phi Phi Leh Island within the Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park in Krabi Province, is a world-renowned natural tourist destination. Its breathtaking scenery features a crescent-shaped bay surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, pristine white sandy beaches, and crystal-clear emerald waters, leaving an unforgettable impression on visitors.
Maya Bay gained widespread popularity among both Thai and international tourists, especially after being featured in the movie "The Beach," which further elevated its status as a prominent international destination. However, to preserve its fragile natural resources, the national park implemented strict restoration and tourism control measures. The bay was temporarily closed from 2018 to 2021 and reopened in 2022 under stringent regulations.
Management measures include limiting the number of daily visitors, prohibiting swimming and snorkeling near the beach, and banning boats from docking directly in the bay. Visitors must disembark at a pier located behind the island and walk along a designated path to access the bay, minimizing impacts on coral reefs and the marine environment.
Traveling to Maya Bay is possible by boat, including speedboats and long-tail boats, from various piers in Krabi Province, such as Ao Nang Pier or Klong Jilad Pier, taking approximately 30–45 minutes. Visitors are required to book their visit in advance through the QueQ application and can stay in the area for no more than one hour per session.
Maya Bay is open to visitors annually from October 1 to July 31 and is closed for natural restoration during the monsoon season from August 1 to September 30.
Maya Bay serves as an exemplary model of sustainable tourism, showcasing the collaboration between government agencies, private sectors, and tourists in preserving the natural beauty for future generations. It offers a priceless experience for visitors today and in the years to come.
