An ancient site from the early Ayutthaya period, located outside the Grand Palace on the east side, near Bueng Phra Ram in the heart of the city, opposite Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit, Tambon Pratu Chai, Amphoe Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. It is a large and spacious temple with a large prang that can be seen clearly from afar. The prang is made of bricks and mortar (mortar is used to connect bricks or stones together). It is an early Ayutthaya architecture that prefers to build prangs as religious buildings because it was influenced by the ancient Khmer style from the city of Lavo (Lopburi). Currently, only ruins remain. The history of the temple is mentioned in the Royal Chronicles that “In the year 731 of the Rooster year (1369 CE), in the year 1912 BE, Wat Phra Ram was built. In that year, King Ramathibodi I (King U Thong) passed away. From the aforementioned records, it can be stated that Wat Phra Ram was built during the reign of King Ramesuan to enshrine the remains of King U Thong (his father), the first king of Ayutthaya. And this area was once the place where King U Thong's body was cremated.
The entrance fee is 10 baht.
