Wat Ratchaburana, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province

Wat Ratchaburana, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province
This ancient temple is located near the Pa Sak River and Wat Mahathat. Built during the reign of King Borommarachathirat II, it was dedicated to his elder brother, who died in a usurpation of the throne. Its distinctive feature is the large prang, a distinctive early Ayutthaya architectural style, surrounded by four chedis at the main prang, a unique example of "artificial mountain" art. Inside the prang is a crypt, accessible via a steep staircase. Inside, the prang houses faint murals and ancient Buddha images, a blend of Khmer and Sukhothai styles.
