When visiting Ayutthaya, you simply cannot miss the magnificent and historically rich Wat Chaiwatthanaram.
Built in 1630 by King Prasat Thong of the Ayutthaya Kingdom to honor his mother, this temple is designed in the Khmer architectural style. Its central prang stands majestically, surrounded by smaller towers and Buddha halls arranged symmetrically, earning it the nickname "Thailand's Mini Angkor Wat."
As you step into the temple, you are greeted by the marks of time and the weight of history. There are 120 Buddha statues here, but almost all of them are missing their heads, leaving only their silent bodies seated among the red bricks. This stark reminder of the ravages of war adds a poignant sense of grandeur and mystery to the temple.
Many visitors choose to rent traditional Thai attire for photos here. Dressed in elegant Thai costumes, with the golden sunset casting its glow on the ancient ruins, one feels as if they've been transported back to the Ayutthaya era.
Words cannot do justice to the splendor and solemnity of Wat Chaiwatthanaram. Only by visiting in person can you truly experience the awe-inspiring ancient grandeur. 👍
