Things I Learned After Visiting Phuket During the Rainy Season

1. Does it rain every day during the rainy season? ☔
- During my 6-day, 5-night trip, it rained only 2-3 times, and it never rained all day long. Among those, there was one daytime squall and one late-night rain. Based on my experience, the downside of traveling during the rainy season is that the waves become rougher, increasing the likelihood of seasickness during island tours and making swimming in the sea more challenging.

2. Want to fully enjoy snorkeling and the emerald sea?
- While some places, like the Marriott Resort & Spa Merlin Beach, offer snorkeling right at the beach in front of the accommodation, the western coast of Phuket, which is commonly visited, tends to have strong waves, making underwater visibility poor and deep swimming difficult. Although the clear turquoise sea can be seen from the shore, it’s too far to reach by swimming. To truly enjoy snorkeling and the beautiful sea colors, you’ll need to take a boat out.

3. A 10-minute walk? Sounds easy, right? (Or is it? 🥲)
- Many roads lack clear separation between pedestrian paths and vehicle lanes, and there are places without traffic lights where you have to quickly cross the road while checking both sides. If you’re traveling with young children, it’s recommended to use taxis whenever possible.

4. Looking for a quiet spot at Phuket Airport? Head to the 4th floor 😏
- If you can access a lounge, that’s great. But if not, head to the rest area near the lounge entrance on the 4th floor. There are long rows of armless chairs, offering a more relaxed atmosphere compared to the crowded 3rd floor, where the boarding gates and duty-free shops are located. Most people tend to stay on the 3rd floor, making the 4th floor much quieter.
