Amidst the pine and cypress trees on the eastern foothills of the Taihang Mountains, a land backed by mountains and facing water quietly tells the legendary history that changed China's destiny. This is Xibaipo—a once ordinary mountain village in Hebei Province that became the nerve center of the Chinese revolution from 1947 to 1949, hailed as "the last rural command post to liberate all of China." It is also known as "the place where New China began." In 1947, when Liu Shaoqi and Zhu De led the Central Working Committee to arrive first in Xibaipo, this small mountain village began its unique mission. The following May, the arrival of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and Ren Bishi with the central authorities officially made Xibaipo the seat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. On this fertile land, the Party Central Committee strategized and commanded the world-shaking Liaoshen, Huaihai, and Pingjin campaigns; here, the successful convening of the Second Plenary Session of the Seventh Central Committee outlined the grand blueprint for New China. Comrade Zhou Enlai once affectionately said, "Xibaipo was the last rural command post where Chairman Mao and the Central Committee stationed before entering Beiping to liberate the whole country, commanding the three major campaigns here and holding the Second Plenary Session of the Seventh Central Committee here." Rich Red Imprints Today, Xibaipo has developed a complete patriotic education system. Entering the scenic area, numerous precious historical relics are scattered across 390,000 square meters of land: The former site of the CPC Central Committee in Xibaipo retains its simple original appearance; inside the mud-brick bungalows, leaders like Mao Zedong once made decisive plans; the Xibaipo Memorial Hall comprehensively displays that glorious era with abundant historical materials; the Stone Carving Garden showcases exquisite calligraphy art engraved with revolutionary passion; the bronze statues of the Five Secretaries are lifelike and awe-inspiring; the Xibaipo Monument stands tall, symbolizing the immortality of the revolutionary spirit. Every attraction is a vivid history lesson, allowing visitors to feel the wisdom and courage of revolutionary predecessors as they walk through. A Revolutionary Holy Land Amidst Mountains and Waters The charm of Xibaipo lies not only in its profound red history but also in its beautiful natural scenery. The scenic area is backed by the verdant Baipo Ridge covered with pine and cypress and faces the shimmering Baipo Lake, forming a perfect blend of "red spirit and green ecology." As former Vice Premier Qian Qichen praised, "a revolutionary holy land and a beautiful tourist destination," this place is both an ideal site for receiving revolutionary tradition education and an excellent spot for sightseeing, tourism, and leisure vacations. Eternal Spiritual Wealth In March 1949, the Central Committee and Chairman Mao left Xibaipo for Beijing to establish the new government, leaving behind the precious "Xibaipo Spirit" and the consciousness of "taking the exam." In 1978, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the relocation of the CPC Central Committee and the PLA Headquarters to Xibaipo, the former site and memorial hall were officially opened to the public, allowing this history to be remembered and studied by future generations. Today, Xibaipo has become a classic national red tourism destination, attracting countless visitors every year. Here, they feel the pulse of history, contemplate the true meaning of the revolution amid green mountains and clear waters, and draw strength for moving forward from the footsteps of revolutionary predecessors. Xibaipo, this land that witnessed the great turning point of the Chinese revolution, is showcasing the eternal brilliance of a revolutionary holy land with its unique historical value and natural charm. It is not only a monument of history but also a beacon lighting the way forward, reminding us to stay true to our original aspiration and keep moving ahead.
