I used to only know of the Confucius ancestral home in Qufu, Shandong, but I didn't know that the low-key city of Quzhou is actually the southern ancestral home of Confucius.
🌈Highlights:
The Confucius Temple in Quzhou, Zhejiang, was built in the early Southern Song Dynasty by Kong Ruiyou, the 47th-generation descendant of Confucius, after he led his clan south with Emperor Gaozong. With a history of over 800 years, it is a national key cultural relic protection site and is known as the "Southern Confucius Holy Land" and "Southeastern Queli." It is one of only two remaining Confucius family temples in the country and is known as the Southern Branch of the Confucius family.
There are three types of Confucius temples: family temples, state temples, and school temples. The Quzhou Confucius Temple served as both a state temple for official sacrifices and a family temple for the descendants of Confucius to worship their ancestors.
🎟️Tickets: 10 yuan/person (includes a mini version of the Analects)
🕐️Opening hours: 9am-5pm
💗Other tips: It takes 2-3 hours to visit the Confucius Temple. The ancient temple, bathed in the autumn sunlight, is both serene and magnificent. The entrance is a typical southern mansion, with statues of Confucius and his descendants, as well as displays and introductions of Confucian works. The backyard (picture four) has a pond and fountain. When you're tired of walking, you can sit by the pond or in the pavilion, feed the fish, and bask in the sun. Time seems to slow down here.
📍Address: No. 96, Xinqiao Street, Kecheng District, Quzhou City (Fushan Park and the Confucian Academy are opposite the Confucius Temple)
