Chasing Dawn on Mount Kinabalu

Chasing Dawn on Mount Kinabalu’s Legendary Peaks 🌄🥾
Ready for an epic adventure at Mount Kinabalu? The exhilarating ascent to Low’s Peak is the highlight—think panoramic highland vistas, mystical rolling clouds, and that unforgettable sunrise moment. If the weather’s on your side (like on my hike!), set off early and you’ll reach the summit in time to watch the sun rise over Ranau.

Start your trek from Timpohon Gate and pace yourself for the 6-8 hr climb. Key checkpoints include Laban Rata guesthouse (great spot to rest and refuel) before tackling the final stretch to Low’s Peak (Unnamed Road, Kota Belud/Ranau, Sabah; open all day, year-round). Aim to summit between 5:30–6:30 AM for that golden hour magic—pack extra layers, as it gets chilly up top! Must-do: snap a wide-angle selfie near the summit sign or capture the sweeping granite ridges under first light—absolutely insta-worthy, especially with the sky painted in pastels.

Practical tips: Secure your climbing permit in advance; guides are mandatory. Bring snacks, a headlamp, and rain gear just in case (the weather can shift fast). Keep an eye on pacing, drink lots of water, and rest when you need to—dizzy spells aren’t uncommon at altitude. Precaution: Watch those slippery rocks, especially after rain, and don’t underestimate the final climb’s steepness.

This is truly a bucket-list hike. Sunrise at Low’s Peak is worth every step and every drop of sweat!
