I took my family and children to Hokkaido for a summer getaway. When planning our itinerary, we were drawn to Rusutsu's beautiful natural environment and proximity to Hokkaido's largest amusement park. It seemed like a great choice for a family getaway with plenty to do! However, before our trip, I couldn't find many online reviews or testimonials, and I was a little worried it might be a less popular destination. However, after visiting, I found the resort to be incredibly fun, with meticulous care taken in its maintenance and operation. It's also very popular with Korean golf tour groups. During our stay, the majority of visitors were Korean, but there were also quite a few Japanese families there!
Although the hotel is quite old, the facilities and activities at the resort are truly extensive! The kids were thrilled upon arriving, forgetting the long journey and eager to explore. Rusutsu Village is a true paradise, boasting a two-story carousel flown in from Germany, a water dance, multiple restaurants, an indoor wave pool, a gymnasium, and more—all of which kept the kids entertained for hours. I highly recommend the newest hot springs facility in the hotel's north wing; the setting is stunning. After a full day of activities, an evening soak is the perfect indulgence! Rusutsu's vast outdoor landscape is a true treasure trove of nature! The hydrangeas bloom beautifully in the summer, and the Shepherd's Square and outdoor lawns are immaculately maintained. Located at high altitude, Rusutsu's summer evenings are cool and pleasant, making for a pleasant stroll. Evening activities include a light maze, projection shows, and fireworks, creating a dazzling spectacle from morning till night. The dedication of the Rusutsu staff is truly admirable. During my stay, I saw them meticulously cleaning and rake up fallen leaves every day, ensuring the resort never feels run-down due to its age. It's truly vast, yet every area is meticulously maintained. I'm truly impressed!
Finally, getting to and from Rusutsu is incredibly easy. There's a paid bus service directly from New Chitose Airport to the hotel, and if you're flying from Sapporo, there's also a free daily shuttle bus. Bookings for the shuttle bus must be made online in advance. I'm looking forward to visiting Rusutsu again in the winter to experience its stunning snowscapes and skiing!
