🇰🇷 Gwangjang Market, Seoul, Korea
"Bakkwae Bindaetteok"
Received Michelin Blue Ribbon Survey Korea

A 3-minute walk from Jongno 5-ga Station on Subway Line 1. This bindaetteok specialty restaurant serves fragrant mung bean pancake made with 100% mung beans ground directly in a stone mill. It received the 2024 Blue Ribbon Survey, Korea's equivalent of Michelin.
The Blue Ribbon Survey is a restaurant guide launched in 2005. Restaurants are rated with three blue ribbons, which are always posted at the entrance of delicious restaurants. The survey is conducted annually, and the more ribbons they receive, the more reliable the restaurant is.
Bindaetteok is grilled immediately after ordering on a large hot plate in plenty of oil, resulting in a delightfully crispy texture. Enjoy a wide variety of dishes, including assorted pancakes, meat pancakes, and yukhoe, all of which capture the atmosphere of a traditional market.
▼Seafood Bindaetteok 10,000w
The outside is crispy, the inside is fluffy, and the flavor of the mung beans is truly plentiful. This mung bean pancake is packed with seafood, including octopus and shrimp.
Mung beans are rich in iron and carotene, making bindaetteok a national dish eaten to relieve fatigue and replenish nutrients.
Bindaetteok, which can often be seen being grilled while walking around Gwangjang Market, is recommended as a side dish to enjoy with makgeolli.
▼Yukkekolbengi 21,000w
This dish features Japanese whelk topped with yukhoe. Somen noodles are served on the side, and you can mix them with the sweet and spicy Japanese whelk dish to enjoy both.
Mixing whelk and somen noodles is a standard menu item at Korean izakayas. Whelk, green onions, mitsuba, and other vegetables are tossed in a miso sauce called "chojang," characterized by its refreshingly sour and spicy flavor, resulting in an addictively appetizing spiciness.
Mixing it with yukhoe mellows the sour and spicy flavor, and the umami of the raw meat and the richness of the egg yolk add to the depth of flavor.
▼Liver Sashimi 17,000w
Originally, this dish featured half raw liver and half omasum, but I requested just the liver.
The delicate flavor of the fresh liver was enhanced by the umami of salt and the savory Korean sesame oil, filling me with joy with every bite. It has a rich texture and flavor, with a clean aftertaste that leaves you feeling extremely satisfied.
Although Gwangjang Market is known as a tourist destination, many restaurants here are popular with locals, and are known for their reasonable prices and delicious food. The spacious interior makes it a great spot for food hopping.
