Changdeokgung (창덕궁), a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Seoul, is a stunning example of traditional Korean palace architecture and design. Built as a secondary palace to Gyeongbokgung, it was favored by many Joseon kings for its elegant and harmonious integration with the surrounding natural landscape. The palace is designed to blend seamlessly with the contours of the mountain behind it, a stark contrast to the more rigid layout of Gyeongbokgung. The main hall, Injeongjeon, is impressive, but the real highlight is the vast and beautiful Huwon (후원), or Secret Garden, which is considered the finest example of a royal garden in Korea.
Reason to Recommend: I highly recommend Changdeokgung for anyone who appreciates elegance, harmony with nature, and a more serene palace experience. It's perfect for a leisurely walk, offering a peaceful and beautiful atmosphere that is less crowded than its neighbor. The Secret Garden tour is a must-do for a deeper appreciation of Korean garden design.
Transportation: Changdeokgung is centrally located in Seoul.
Metro: The closest metro station is Anguk Station (안국역) on Line 3, Exit 3. From there, it's about a 5-minute walk.
Bus: Many bus lines stop nearby.
