If you're visiting Seoul in autumn, don't miss Culture Station Seoul 284. Originally the Gyeongseong Station built a century ago, it has been transformed into an art and cultural venue. Here, you can experience the charm of historical architecture while enjoying the creativity of artists that transcends time.
During our visit, we coincidentally encountered the Art Week event. The entire station, spanning one or two floors with over ten spaces, was turned into a massive art gallery showcasing works that spanned various styles.
For instance, Professor Lee Sang-jang repurposed discarded robotic vacuum cleaners, dismantling and reassembling their parts into three-dimensional artworks. A baby stroller was transformed into a red beast, reflecting on the consequences of mass consumption in society. Korean artist B98C anthropomorphized mushrooms into office workers, their faces etched with frustration, and depicted a weary radish shaving its beard, adding a humorous touch. Another Korean artist, Arayah.zo, selected as a featured artist, exhibited doll paintings.
The former VIP lounge from a century ago has been converted into an exhibition area, as have the grand conference room and VIP passageway. The venue also incorporates generative AI, offering multilingual guided tours in different sections, showcasing remarkable creativity.
The best part is that the exhibitions are constantly changing. From October to the end of November, there will be a free exhibition titled "One Hundred Years and One Day: From Memory to Imagination," featuring videos, photographs, and artworks. Visitors can even experience the tea and beer once sold at Seoul Station, providing a deeper understanding of its century-long history.
📍Address: 1 Tongil-ro, Jung District, Seoul, South Korea
