Just a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Sapporo, I visited Cape Kamui on the Shakotan Peninsula, where the sea meets the sky. This season, right before the snow falls, is filled with unique charm.
As soon as I stood at the observation deck, I was greeted by the endless expanse of the blue sea. Perhaps because winter is just around the corner, the air was crisp, making the sky clearer and the sea appear as transparent as glass. Despite the sea breeze tousling my hair, I couldn’t take my eyes off the breathtaking view before me.
Walking down the path, I reached the edge of the cliff that stretches out over the sea. True to its name, "God’s Playground," the majestic curves of nature resembled a mystical fortress. The sound of waves crashing against the cliffs echoed in my ears, while the salty scent of the sea filled the air, refreshing my spirit.
Since the snow hadn’t yet settled, the paths weren’t slippery, making it easy to walk, and there weren’t many people around, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the scenery. On the way back, I stopped by a small restaurant and enjoyed a warm bowl of seafood ramen, which quickly thawed my body chilled by the cold sea breeze.
Right before the snow falls, this is truly the most radiant time for Cape Kamui. The clear sea and sky, along with the serene grandeur, made this a trip to remember for a long time. 🌊✨
