The most unpopular ancient town I have been to this year! I really want to make it popular

Most of the time, I am looking for treasures that are truly less crowded.

After traveling for 3 years, we really visited a lot of ancient towns. But in this issue, I still want to sincerely share with you the place we just visited:

Nanping, Fujian. Heping Ancient Town

How niche is it?

We drove to Jiangxi during the National Day. We were tired from driving on the way back to Hangzhou and wanted to find a place to rest. We found this place and got off the highway.

I was originally worried that I would have nowhere to live, but unexpectedly I found a hotel at the gate of the ancient town. It cost 120 yuan for a single room and 160 yuan for a standard room. There was no price increase at all.

This is National Day, friends! The most golden travel period of the year.

When we entered the ancient town the next morning, there were no tourists. After walking around for several times, the number of tourists gradually started to increase in the afternoon, but it was not even as large as any other ancient town in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai on weekends. You know, this is National Day, friends.

You may think that maybe this ancient town is not interesting. No, no, no, we spent two days exploring here and found that this ancient town is so interesting! It has a history of more than 1,700 years and is a rare large castle-like village in China.

There are three gate towers and part of the city wall in the east, south and north. It also retains one of the earliest academies in northern Fujian - Heping Academy, as well as several doctor's offices and county magistrate's offices.

There are also more than 300 typical ancient buildings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, including many nunneries, temples, ancestral halls and warehouses.

From south to north in the ancient town, there is a main street paved with bluestones, known as the "No. 1 Street in Fujian". There are well-preserved old buildings on the street.

There are local people who live here and sell some local specialties. Passionate but also very Buddhist, with a very low commercial atmosphere...

In the evening, locals in the town are chatting and saying hello.

Outside the village, there is a large rice field that is almost golden, and the autumn mood is getting stronger. In the evening, the smoke rises from the old houses in the ancient town. At that moment, it is a beautiful pastoral and rural picture. Autumn here is so beautiful!

I went back to my residence and chatted with my boss. He told me:

The popularity here has never been high. It started charging tickets some time ago, and the popularity is even lower.

Local villagers and merchants went to make trouble together, thinking:

This is an ancient town that has been around for thousands of years. Why does it suddenly start charging admission tickets?

So now it’s back to free tours in ancient towns.

However, there are additional charges for several cultural heritage sites and special ancient buildings such as Heping Academy, Theater Building, Old City Yicang, and County Chancellor's Office.

But for a 50 yuan ticket to 5 attractions and a free customs clearance certificate and egg noodles, I think it’s still worth it!
