Tired of the fast pace of city life and wanting to escape to a less crowded place for the weekend, we found a lesser-known, undeveloped island fishing village in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai area: Huanglong Island.
When it comes to Shengsi, people are probably familiar with Gouqi Island and Huaniao Island, but few know about Huanglong Island. In fact, it is one of the earliest inhabited islands, famous for its stone house scenery and pristine island environment, also known as the "East China Sea Stone Village."
🍃 About transportation:
From Shanghai Nanpu Bridge Passenger Station 🚗 to Shengsi (Shenjiawan), then 🚢 to Huanglong Island Pier. The guesthouse will pick you up at the pier.
🍃 About accommodation:
This time we stayed at the guesthouse Daleyezhiye on the island. I really like the name Lost Villa: a forgotten beautiful place. The guesthouse is located at a high point on the small island with great views and a lighthouse nearby. There are almost no tourists here, only the sound of waves hitting the shore.
On this "travel by foot, communicate by shouting" small island, we spent three days. The disconnection from the outside world brought us back to a simple and authentic way of life. The first two days on Huanglong Island coincided with strong winds, so we didn’t go anywhere, just stayed at the guesthouse, looked at exhibitions, listened to the wind, and enjoyed this special staycation with the kids.
The day after the strong wind, the sun was shining brightly again, and we watched the sunrise 🌅 from the room. Although the phone signal was a bit weak these days, our mood was fully charged. Little Pai ran and jumped around the guesthouse, having a great time.
🍃 About meals:
The guesthouse has a coffee shop ☕️ "Ye You Ka" and a restaurant "Ye You Shi." During our three days on the island, we ate a lot of fresh local seafood 🦞! We heard we brought kids, and the guesthouse thoughtfully prepared kid-friendly meals 🍚🥗 for us, very considerate ❤️
🍃 Places to visit on the island:
🍃 One Meter Street
The well-known One Meter Street is the main road in the center of Nangang Village, said to be only one meter wide.
🍃 Listening to the Wind and Painting the Sea
This spot is great for photos, with few people, unlike crowded popular spots. The white buildings are beautiful, and the pink lighthouse in the distance is very photogenic.
🍃 Chibo Mountain
Located on the southeast side, it’s actually a group of reefs, a pristine sea cape where you can watch the sunrise.
🍃 Tips:
① The island is windy in the morning and evening, so bring a windbreaker. Hats 👒 are easily blown away (shoutout to my straw hat that blew into the sea 😂), so choose hats with straps or wear a hoodie.
② Sun protection gear (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)
③ Comfortable walking shoes
