Few people know that Shenyang was the first capital of the Qing Dynasty. It was here that the journey of imperial power began, and the Mukden Palace — second in importance only to the Forbidden City in Beijing — stands as a testament to this.

We experienced a rainstorm at the palace: warm rain drummed on the tiled roof, the halls smelled of wood and history — pure magic.

The palace was built back in 1625. It is one of only two ancient palace complexes in China that has been preserved almost in its original state.

It is called a true gem of the country's culture and history, and it is even listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The palace is located right in the city center, and it’s easy to reach on foot if you’re strolling through the historic district. It’s not only one of Shenyang’s main attractions — it’s, without exaggeration, a calling card of all Chinese history.

If you’re in Shenyang, I highly recommend visiting. But if you’re there in the summer during peak season, it’s better to come early, as the palace is always crowded.
