[Wakayama] Shirahama Sandanbeki

#SummerCampaign

A 50-meter-high cliff towers over the southern coast of Senjojiki.
Said to have originated from a "kendan," a place where fishermen once kept watch for passing boats and schools of fish, this massive rock wall stretches approximately 2 km from north to south. The waves crashing against the rock face offer a powerful natural experience.

The view from the observation deck was spectacular.

The Sandanbeki Cave is located underground, and visitors can take an elevator down to the cavern to get a close-up look at the dynamic waves approaching.

Legend has it that the Kumano Navy, known for their role in the Genpei War during the Heian period, hid their ships in the Sandanbeki Cave.

In April 2016, Nanki Shirahama/Sandanbeki was designated a lovers' sanctuary. To mark the occasion, a heart-shaped monument was installed near the Sandanbeki Observatory and the mailboxes were painted pink, creating a fitting image for a lovers' sanctuary.
You can attach a padlock to the heart-shaped monument.

There were souvenir shops, restaurants, and even a foot bath with a view of the ocean! ✨
