I didn't want to visit Tokyo or Osaka every time I visit Japan, so I decided to visit the Nagoya area this time. The attraction I'm introducing is the quaint Shirakawa-go.
Shirakawa-go is about a 2.5-hour drive from Nagoya, and is surrounded by mountains and hills. Shirakawa-go village retains many ancient Japanese buildings, which offer insights into the local history. Some of these buildings are open to tourists, perfect for taking photos, while there are also souvenir shops selling local gifts and snacks. Some are actually inhabited.
Shirakawa-go offers not only a glimpse into history and local culture, but also offers beautiful scenery and a secluded escape from the hustle and bustle. It's highly recommended.
