Shirakawa-go Village

A small, historic village nestled in the valley
in Gifu and Toyama Prefectures

Shirakawa-go Village

Each house is built in a unique traditional Japanese architectural style
called Gassho-zukuri.
The houses have pointed roofs, sloping downward on both sides
to allow snow and rain to fall quickly.
The clusters of houses create a beautiful, yet simple atmosphere.

The village itself is not very large, and a half-day walk is enough to cover it all. The main stops are:

01 Tenshukaku Viewpoint
02 Myozenji Temple
03 Shirakawa Hachiman Shrine
04 Three Historic Houses

Getting there: 50-minute bus ride from Takayama
