Self-drive from Nagoya to Takayama City for a few days and spend a white Christmas🎄

It takes about 45 minutes to drive from Takayama City to Shirakawa-go. The mountain scenery along the way is beautiful❄️When you arrive at the entrance of Shirakawa-go, it is recommended to park at the Seseragi Koen parking lot and walk across the suspension bridge to reach Gassho Village~

The most recommended photo spot in Shirakawa-go is the observatory, where you can have a panoramic view of the entire Gassho Village! It's a pity that we didn't go up today because it was snowing and too cold. 😭 If the weather permits, I strongly recommend going to the observation deck. You can choose to walk (about 5 minutes) or take a shuttle bus up the mountain. Private cars are not allowed to drive up there!

The streets of the village are lined with traditional Gassho-style buildings, three of which are open for visits and are especially recommended! You can appreciate this unique architectural craft up close and learn about the local culture and history.

For lunch, we chose the famous restaurant "Shirakawago Restaurant Irori". Although we had to queue for about 30 minutes, it was worth it. The restaurant's mountain delicacies are all cooked with local ingredients, especially the fragrant charcoal-grilled fish with handmade soba noodles. The Hida curry beef rice we ordered was also delicious!
