Shirakawa-go, famous for its traditional gassho-style houses, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
The entire town is filled with gassho-style architecture, and the unique design of the houses is truly awe-inspiring!
The nostalgic atmosphere of the town is enchanting, reminiscent of old Japan. The picturesque scenery of traditional Japan will leave you mesmerized. ☺️
Visiting Shirakawa-go feels like a purification for both body and soul. The air is fresh, the rivers and mountain views are stunningly beautiful. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend visiting at least once!
Due to the high number of inbound tourists, there are relatively few Japanese visitors. Souvenir shops and restaurants tend to have prices tailored for international tourists, so if you’re looking to buy souvenirs, head to the nearby roadside station, Shirakawa-go, where you can find the same items at lower prices.
💰 Price per person: Free
🅿️ Parking fee: ¥1,000 per session
The closest parking lot is Seseragi Park Parking. Although I visited on a weekday, Seseragi Park Parking was full, so I used the Midashima Park Temporary Parking instead. Both parking lots have the same fee.

Since locals reside in the area, sightseeing is only allowed during these hours.
