Merlion

The Merlion, a half-lion, half-fish statue, is an iconic symbol of the Singapore River at Merlion Park.
The Merlion’s fish-like body symbolizes Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village, then called Temasek, which shares the same root as the Malay word tasik (meaning “lake”).

The head represents Singapore’s original name, Singapura, or Lion City in Malay.
