Portugal Attraction: Pena Palace

Portugal's Top Attractions: Pena Palace
This Romantic-style palace, the former residence of the Portuguese king, is located on a hill above Sintra. From a distance, the vibrant colors of Pena Palace, a vibrant blend of Gothic, Renaissance, Moorish, and Manueline styles, stand out against the emerald green of the hill. Its towering tower, resembling a rocket, gives it the appearance of a paradise-like castle.

Pena Palace was designated a World Heritage Site in 1995. It is also a Portuguese National Monument and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. Since Sintra is close to Lisbon, Pena Palace is a must-see on any trip to Lisbon.

Getting there: Buses are available from both Lisbon and Sintra, but after getting off, you'll have to walk uphill for over 30 minutes to the ticket office, so consider your physical fitness. Those driving can park near the ticket office, but arrive early as parking is limited and difficult to find. Tips: Adult tickets are 20 euros. Discounts are available if you purchase online three days in advance. Try to arrive early, as there will be long lines.
