Surabaya's Spiritual Jewel: Al-Akbar Mosque

Surabaya, Indonesia's second-largest city, is famous for its waterfalls and volcanoes. There are multiple direct flights from Jakarta, taking just over an hour, making it very convenient.
The trips to Sempu Waterfall and Mount Bromo usually start very early in the morning or even at dawn. If you fly in from Jakarta in the morning, you can spend half a day warming up in Surabaya’s city center, experiencing this Chinese-populated and relatively affluent city in Indonesia—it’s definitely worth the visit.
During the Lunar New Year, the streets are decorated with many lanterns and "Gong Xi Fa Cai" greetings, creating a festive atmosphere. The tall tower of Al Akbar Mosque offers a panoramic view of the city. Its cool blue tones exude a somber beauty that complements the joyful New Year celebrations.
You can casually stroll through the old streets of Tunjangan Romansa, where there are many Malay coffee shops and street vendors. However, I still found a restaurant more suited to the Chinese palate called Fork: their smoked meat tastes great. The first floor is for cooking and dining, the second floor is for baking, and the third floor is the office—none of which interfere with each other. I also took a look at their kitchen, where many cheerful staff were relaxed and joking around, their happiness clearly written all over their faces!
