During the Tang Dynasty, Bai Juyi excavated the Shantang River to improve waterway navigation, and Shantang Street was built along the river. The street's white walls, black tiles, and upturned eaves have a history of over a thousand years.
Today, it is a charmingly traditional commercial street. Visitors can dine at riverside restaurants, shop for qipaos and silk, or visit photography studios to rent Hanfu outfits for picturesque shots on the bridge.
The area is bustling with tourists, especially at night. It is recommended to visit around dusk when the streets are beautifully illuminated under the evening glow. As night falls, the dazzling nightscape unfolds. Be sure to walk onto the bridge to admire the interplay of light and shadow on the river, with lanterns reflecting off the white walls along the banks—truly mesmerizing.
Transportation Info: Take Metro Line 2 to Shantang Street Station, Exit 1, and walk approximately 3 minutes.
