November 2017, my sixth #Taiwan trip: Using #Taipei as a base, I cautiously explored #Taichung & #Tainan~
• After enjoying the sunset in Anping, I returned to downtown Tainan. The first place I visited after getting off the bus was #HayashiDepartmentStore (#hayashidepartmentstore / #林百貨)!! As the name suggests, it was established during the Japanese colonial period and still operates true to its name.
• As soon as I entered the store, I couldn't help but feel that it wasn't a retro store imitating the past, but rather a store that truly retained its original 1930s charm. From the floor patterns to the shape of the stairs...
• Then I discovered the remains of a rather old elevator. It's famous because it was the first building in Taiwan to feature an elevator... While a newer model is now in operation due to safety concerns, it's still on display to preserve its historical significance.
• After exploring the store, I headed up to the rooftop. Coming here, the Japanese feel is even more pronounced. Anyway, I was able to enjoy the simple night view of Tainan City, and the small Japanese shrine was a unique touch.
