Zhenmen Temple, located in Annan District, Tainan, is a temple that combines history and legend. It is said that Zheng Chenggong's soldiers once instructed him to build a temple in a dream to symbolize the important position of guarding Luermen. The most eye-catching thing in the temple is the two barefoot Western door gods, which is the only feature in Taiwan. It symbolizes that after the Dutch were conquered by Zheng Chenggong, they turned to guard this place, showing the integration of Chinese and Western cultures.
The "Tianjin City" is located at the mouth of the Luermen River and is the key location for Zheng Chenggong to land in Taiwan. Back then, Zheng Chenggong took advantage of the natural terrain here and successfully broke through the Dutch defense line, opening a new chapter in Taiwan's history. Today, a stone tablet engraved with "The Natural Danger of the City" stands here to remind tourists of this important history. In addition, in the evening, the setting sun shines on the river mouth, the fishing boats return, and the oyster sheds stand in rows, forming a beautiful picture of the fishing village.
Visiting Zhenmen Temple and Fucheng Natural Fortress not only allows you to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s historical background, but also allows you to appreciate the natural beauty. Whether you are a traveler interested in history or a photography enthusiast who loves to take pictures of the beautiful sunset, this is a tourist destination not to be missed.
