Tainan Attractions-Sidian Wu Temple

Walking into the alleys of Tainan, you will always inadvertently enter history.
This time I came to the Sidian Wu Temple, which has been quietly standing for more than 300 years and is hidden in the corner of the city.
It is a place that made me realize that "Guan Gong" is not only a martial god, but also a symbol of faith and culture.
Unlike the big temples, this place is not as prosperous as the incense and bustling with people. Instead, it has more tranquility and solemnity.
Sometimes it is an old lady who worships devoutly, and sometimes a young couple walks hand in hand in front of the incense burner.
Locals say: "The Wu Temple is not about worshipping miracles, but peace of mind."
🧧 The oldest Guandi Temple in Taiwan
The Sidian Wu Temple was built during the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (1665 AD). It is the earliest temple in Taiwan to worship Guandi.
It is listed as a national-level temple with Tainan's Sidian Datianhou Temple, representing the highest standard of official worship.
The two words "Sidian" are not decorations, but a respected status awarded by the emperor of the Qing Dynasty.
The Guandijun, or Guan Gong as we know it, is enshrined here. However, this Guan Gong is not a mythical god of war, but the embodiment of loyalty, trustworthiness, and integrity. It is said that worshipping Guan Gong here is particularly effective in praying for official luck, exam luck, career, and a righteous aura. Even many policemen and soldiers who come to Tainan on business trips will come here to worship. 🏮 The temple building itself is a work of art
The jianniang on the roof of the main hall, the wood carvings and calligraphy on the beams and pillars are all the essence of the city's craftsmanship
The stone pillars are inscribed with allusions such as "A real man can bend and stretch", and you can find the stories hidden in the carvings if you look closely
There are historic flagpole stands, incense burners and plaques engraved with "Terrifying the Chinese and the barbarians" on both sides of the temple courtyard
The "dragon and tiger ridge" and "taro fish spitting mist" decorations on the roof make the whole temple extraordinary
When you walk in, a calm and heavy force will slowly flow into your heart,
It is history, faith, and people's admiration for justice over the long river of time
📸 Highlights of the Sidian Wu Temple and surrounding recommendations
📷 The square in front of the temple is matched with red walls, which is a good angle for taking portraits and classical architecture
📷 The main hall with smoke curling, combined with point light sources, is particularly flavorful
📷 The alleys beside the temple can be extended to the "Datianhou Temple" and "Chihkan Tower", forming a cultural tour
🛍️ There are also Guohua Street and a snack street nearby. After visiting the temple, you can eat beef soup and tofu pudding to continue your trip!

💭 Worship Guan Gong and receive peace of mind.
I like the Wu Temple not only because it has a long history, but also because it is a very "quiet" temple.
You don't need to pray loudly, just stand in front of Guan Gong silently, and you can feel the upright power.
Every time I come to Tainan, I will come here for a circle, maybe just to light a stick of incense, but I always feel that
The aura of this city is accumulated bit by bit from these corners.
