✓Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine

A historic shrine in Hida Takayama, adjacent to the Miyagawa Morning Market, you can see a large torii gate standing on the front of the shrine. After passing the second wooden torii gate and the third stone torii gate, you can enter the worship hall, which is magnificent and solemn, surrounded by cedar trees. It is also the main venue for the Takayama Spring and Autumn Festival.

It is said that Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine was built during the reign of Emperor Nintoku to pray for victory over demons and to worship the previous emperor, Emperor Ojin. But soon, it was abandoned due to war and no one lived there. It only prospered after the Kanamori family was granted the title of Hida.

Next to the worship hall, there is a side hall, four shin shrines, Teruzen Shrine, Inari Shrine, Kotohira Shrine, and the pen mound of Tenman Shrine. There is also the Sakurayama Forest Trail, where you can stroll in the forest and bathe in the phytoncides.
