Tangshan Museum, located in Phoenix Mountain Park in the center of Tangshan City, Hebei Province, was established in 1996. It was rebuilt from the original South Exhibition Hall and officially opened to the public on April 5, 2012. It is a local comprehensive museum and a cultural activity center integrating cultural relic collection, protection, research, promotion, and education.
Tangshan Museum has an exhibition area of 12,000 square meters and a building area of 24,000 square meters. It houses 16,079 pieces of cultural relics and unearthed specimens, including 394 precious cultural relics. The museum's collection includes exquisite cultural relics such as the Na Ma Elephant ivory fossil and the Liao Dynasty Cang Kiln carved pomegranate vase.
Tangshan Museum is a national first-class museum and a public welfare facility in Tangshan City. It is also a provincial-level patriotic education base in Hebei Province. Tangshan shadow puppetry is one of the most influential types of Chinese shadow puppetry, originating in the late Ming Dynasty and having a history of over 400 years. The "Tangshan Donkey Shadow Play" displays shadow figures and scenes from the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period, all collected by the Tangshan Museum. These exquisite carvings are not only valuable cultural relics but also rare artworks.
