One Day in Tirana – A Colorful Journey Through Albania’s Capital

#springwander
Tirana surprised me with its vibrant energy, bold colors, and mix of old and new. If you only have one day, start at Skanderbeg Square, the beating heart of the city. You’ll find the impressive National History Museum here, alongside the historic Et'hem Bey Mosque and the Clock Tower – perfect for getting a sense of Albania’s layered past.

Next, take a short walk to the Bunk’Art 2 museum. Housed in an old nuclear bunker, it offers a sobering but fascinating glimpse into the country’s communist era. Continue your stroll through the lively Toptani Street and its surrounding alleys, where colorful buildings, modern shops, and street art give Tirana a youthful, creative spirit.

For lunch, head to Oda – a cozy restaurant serving authentic Albanian dishes like fërgesë and byrek. Afterward, relax in the Grand Park near the Artificial Lake or explore the quirky Reja installation near the National Art Gallery.

End your day in the Blloku district, once off-limits to the public. Today, it’s full of trendy bars and cafés, ideal for enjoying a drink and reflecting on Tirana’s fascinating transformation.
