Located in Higashi-Tokorozawa, the Kadokawa Musashino Museum is a breathtaking fusion of architecture, art, and literature. Designed by Kengo Kuma, its stone-like exterior hides an interior that feels almost otherworldly — especially when you step into the Bookshelf Theater.
Towering walls filled with thousands upon thousands of books surround you, illuminated by soft, shifting lights and accompanied by a mesmerizing projection mapping show (screened every 20 minutes). The scale alone is overwhelming, and like many visitors, I couldn’t take my eyes off the spectacle long enough to actually read a book.
What makes this museum unique is its creative categorization system — not organized by author or publisher, but by theme and concept. It sparks serendipitous encounters with books you might never have found otherwise.
This place invites you to slow down, look up, and rediscover the magic of stories. It’s one of those rare museums that blend knowledge, beauty, and emotion in perfect harmony — and I can’t wait to return.
