Tokyo Gotokuji Temple: A Must-Visit Shrine for Cat Lovers

📍Located in Setagaya, Tokyo, not far from the city center

🚝From Shinjuku, take the Odakyu Line for about 20 minutes to reach Gotokuji Station

Built in 628 AD, the temple attracts visitors for its thousands of beckoning cat statues. The temple's architecture retains traditional Japanese style, with wooden structures and intricate roofs that convey a sense of historical depth. Surrounded by greenery, the temple is a perfect spot for photography, especially during cherry blossom season in spring and the vibrant autumn foliage.

Gotokuji is famous for its 'Maneki-neko' (beckoning cats), which are believed to bring good fortune. There is a cat-themed shrine within the temple where many visitors purchase small cat charms to pray for luck.
