This is the Christmas season afternoon tea at The Moon, a restaurant offering afternoon tea from the highest spot in Japan.
The restaurant’s name inspired the playful name AfterMOON Tea. It is located at one of Tokyo’s iconic observation decks, before Shibuya Sky and the recently opened Azabudai Hills.
Occupying one-third of the 52nd floor of Roppongi Hills Tokyo City View, this restaurant has exclusive views stretching from Tokyo Tower to Skytree.ㅜㅜ
It seems like the popularity of the previous two observation decks is being overshadowed now. Seeing the six-tier tray with Tokyo Tower in the frame on Instagram, I seized the opportunity and made a reservation.
This is one of the few places in Japan that doesn’t accept single-person reservations for afternoon tea, so I had to book for two but went alone. It’s always like this domestically, so it’s no big deal.
Since the restaurant is located in Tokyo City View, the usage method is unique. If you have a Tokyo City View ticket, you can use it to access the observation deck. You need to pay for the observation deck ticket.
If you have a restaurant reservation, find The Moon booth to the right of the 3rd-floor ticket counter. They issue a free elevator ticket to the observation deck. The ticket has the restaurant reservation name printed on it.
This ticket does not grant admission to Tokyo City View & Mori Art Museum. It’s an elevator boarding pass for restaurant use. You can even see the Shinjuku view near the souvenir corner.
Since I booked for two, I received two tickets, but visiting alone, I only took one free admission ticket and rode the same elevator with Tokyo City View visitors up to the 52nd floor.
The restaurant entrance is at the far end if you walk straight to the left. I joined the 12 o’clock first-time afternoon tea. There are about 8 window seats with Skytree views and 8 with Tokyo Tower views.
Afternoon tea costs 6,500 yen per person, starting at 13,000 yen for two. There is an additional 1,000 yen per person charge for guaranteed window seats. Window seats cannot be specifically assigned.
Skytree and Tokyo Tower seats are random. Since Tokyo Tower is on the right, the Tokyo Tower seats also have a view of Skytree. My seat was number 1, facing Tokyo Tower. ㄷㄷㄷ
No one was in front of me for two hours, only Tokyo Tower. The view for this trip is a perfect 100 points. I spent a long time just zoning out at Tokyo Tower. Three hours ago, I was zoning out at Skytree. 🤣
The set includes 4 types of savory items, 7 types of sweets, scones, and Shine Muscat grapes. Since it’s for two, all menu items come in double portions. I have my own pattern for this.
I try one of each first, then eat two of the ones I like. The drinks include three special beverages and free drinks. Including two special drinks from the all-you-can-drink menu, I enjoyed four drinks.
Hmm~~~! The taste here isn’t the main point. The view alone makes it all worthwhile. Just enjoying the exclusive, relaxed atmosphere is enough value. Thank you.
