Dear family, I just got back from a trip to Wuzhen, and I was truly speechless from its beauty! This trip completely turned all my fantasies about the Jiangnan water towns into reality. Today, I’m sharing my Wuzhen travel guide with you, guaranteed to make your trip super enjoyable!
🏞️ Attractions:
You must visit both Dongzha and Xizha! Dongzha preserves the authentic water town style, with places like the Mu Xin Former Residence and Jiangnan Hundred Beds Museum, allowing you to immerse yourself in Wuzhen’s rich historical and cultural heritage. In the morning, you can see locals washing clothes and chatting by the river, full of everyday life charm. As for Xizha, it perfectly blends commercialization with an ancient atmosphere. Be sure to take a gondola ride at dusk; the sunset reflecting on the water sparkles, with ancient bridges and white walls with black tiles mirrored in the water—breathtakingly beautiful. Xizha at night is even more stunning; when the lights come on, the whole ancient town feels like it has traveled back a thousand years. Strolling along Xizha Old Street, every photo you take looks like a masterpiece.
🍜 Food:
Wuzhen has so many delicious foods! First recommendation is braised lamb, with tender meat, rich sauce, and a sweet taste with no gamey flavor at all—super satisfying with every bite. Don’t miss the white water fish either; the fish is tender, and steaming preserves its freshness to the fullest. Paired with local rice wine, it’s amazing! Also try Dingsheng Cake, soft, glutinous, and sweet, with a delicate red bean paste filling that’s not greasy. It’s full of rice fragrance and must be eaten hot! After a tiring walk, have a bowl of smoked bean tea, which contains smoked beans, sesame, dried tangerine peel, and more. It tastes fresh and delicious—eat the ingredients first, then drink the tea for a unique flavor.
📸 Photo Spots:
In front of the glass exterior of the Mu Xin Art Museum, the artistic atmosphere is at its peak, and every shot looks great; under the White Lotus Pagoda in Xizha, with ancient bridges and river as the background, photos have a poetic vibe; at Caishen Bay in Dongzha, the soft morning light lets you capture lively water town scenes. For photos, it’s recommended to wear a light-colored traditional long dress paired with an oil-paper umbrella to instantly enhance the atmosphere!
🚗 Transportation:
Take the high-speed train from Hangzhou or Shanghai to Tongxiang Station, then a taxi or bus directly to the Wuzhen scenic area—super convenient.
🏠 Accommodation:
Be sure to book homestays inside the Xizha scenic area in advance. Opening your window to see small bridges and flowing water, sleeping by the water is truly cozy. However, prices might be a bit higher. If your budget is limited, there are many cost-effective hotels around the scenic area to choose from.
Dear friends, don’t just envy others through the screen anymore. Pack your bags and come to Wuzhen for a date with the Jiangnan water town. Trust me, once you come, you won’t want to leave!
