Katsuren Castle Ruins is one of the oldest castle ruins in Okinawa and the most tranquil spot I visited during this trip. Located on a small hill in central Okinawa, the ruins are beautifully arranged, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the eastern coast of the main island from its heights.
This place is free from the hustle and bustle of tourism, with only the sound of the wind brushing against the stone walls and grass. Standing on the ancient stone steps, one can't help but imagine the glorious history of the Ryukyu Kingdom while feeling the quiet passage of time. Visiting during sunset allows you to capture stunning, isolated beauty.
As part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, Katsuren Castle Ruins is not only a place of scenic beauty but also a site for reflecting on the past. If you're looking for a moment of peace and a touch of history in Okinawa, this is the perfect destination.
