Visiting Xieng Khuan

Buddha Park, commonly known as Xieng Khuan, is located 25 kilometers outside of Vientiane. As one may expect from the name, it is famed for having over 200 religious monuments strewn throughout the lovely grounds. The park was the brainchild of a monk who designed the area in 1958 and was interested in both Hindu and Buddhist sculpture, which is why you will find a mix of different influences here.

The piece de resistance here is a 40-meter-high sculpture of a reclining Buddha, and the park was the brainchild of a monk who designed the area in 1958 and was interested in both Hindu and Buddhist sculpture, which is why you will find a mix of different influences here. Keep an eye out for the sculpture of Indra, who sits atop a three-headed elephant and is considered the king of the gods in Hinduism, while you stroll around. Famous gods on horseback, as well as deities with various faces and arms, are among the other attractions.
