Vientiane is the capital of Laos, but to be honest, there isn’t too much to do. I visited on December 2nd, which was National Day, so most museums were closed. I still managed to see a few monuments, visited the night market, and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
Places I Visited:
Patuxay – Victory Monument
The national independence monument. You can go up to the top for a panoramic view of the city.
Tipsy Elephant Vientiane Rooftop Lounge
This was the best sunset spot I could find. Probably one of the best places in town to relax in the evening.
Night Market
The largest night market I’ve seen in Laos. There’s a clear separation between areas selling clothes and food. The city has a noticeable presence of Chinese investment, with lots of malls, cafes, and modern infrastructure.
Accommodation:
I stayed at Sailomyen Cafe & Hostel. It’s not directly in the center but within walking distance to most places. They offer free breakfast, and if you’re leaving early, you can request a takeaway breakfast.
Optional:
If you have more time in Vientiane, you can visit Buddha Park (Wat Xieng Khouane Luang) — it’s located outside the city but worth seeing.
