Wakkanai Port North Breakwater Dome

This is the North Breakwater Dome of Wakkanai Port. You may often see it on Instagram as a photogenic spot.

It is about 14 meters high and 427 meters long, and is a unique dome-shaped breakwater.

It was built to protect port facilities such as the pier for the railway ferry (Wakkanai Ferry) that connects Hokkaido and Sakhalin, and for the convenience of passengers using the pier.

The North Breakwater Dome has an atmosphere reminiscent of ancient Greek architecture. It was easy to access as it was located right next to the station.
