📍 Kaiun 1-chome, Wakkanai City, Hokkaido

The Wakkanai Port North Breakwater Dome was designed by a young engineer in his third year after graduating from university.

At the time, the North Pier was the departure and arrival point for the old Sakhalin route,

and the breakwater was built in 1931 to prevent wave splashes from hitting it.

Afterwards, due to deterioration, a full-scale renovation was carried out

Completed in 1980

Height 13.6m, 8m from inside of pillar to wall

Total length 427m, total number of pillars 70

Surprisingly impressive with its semi-arched structure

In 2001,
it was designated as a Hokkaido Heritage Site
