Weifang People's Square is located to the south of the Weifang municipal government office complex, stretching from Shengli East Street in the north to Jiankang East Street in the south, from Beihai Road in the west to Dongfang Road in the east. It is one of the large green squares in the city area, with a total area of about 43.37 hectares. The entire spatial layout of the square includes 'one lawn, two squares, and four gardens,' namely a 100,000 square meter lawn, the municipal square, the citizens' square, Xiangshan Garden, Xiushui Garden, Zhiqu Garden, and Yumen Garden. Each functional area is relatively independent, organically connected through the north-south axis and the loop line, forming a whole. The design of the spatial environment highlights the spatial form of 'majestic in the north, elegant in the south, mountains and waters in harmony, with a clear layout and rich layers.' The square was originally built in 1951 as a city-level park primarily for the viewing of animals and plants, with closed management. To meet the requirements of urban development and further improve the cultural life quality of the people, in 2004, the municipal party committee and government decided to renovate the People's Square. The renovation project adhered to the principles of utilizing the existing ecological resources, applying modern gardening techniques, highlighting ecology and human orientation, and reflecting the historical and cultural heritage of Weifang, emphasizing the harmony and integration of humans and nature. People's Square has become a popular destination for citizens and tourists for sightseeing, exercising, and family leisure. It is well-equipped and boasts a beautiful environment. It is open to the public free of charge all year round.
