Folks, Xiamen Science and Technology Museum has done it again with their new "Great Whale Family" exhibit – it absolutely blew me away and I'm totally in love!
The moment you step into the exhibition hall, you're greeted by a 10-meter-long adult Baird's beaked whale specimen, making its global debut. Standing before it makes you feel so small – the awe it inspires can't be captured in photos, not even one ten-thousandth of it!
The entire exhibition follows the narrative thread of "A Whale's Tale," connecting spaces like the prelude hall, "Evolution or Degeneration," "Instinct or Culture," "Extinction or Regeneration," and "Division or Coexistence." It's like embarking on a magical deep-sea journey with the whales, effortlessly learning about their evolution, classification, and their crucial role in the ecosystem. This immersive science experience is simply amazing!
Beyond the Baird's beaked whale, there are over 100 rare live specimens and displays. The plastinated specimen of the minke whale "Haihai" reveals the internal structure of cetaceans, while the approximately 1-meter-wide sperm whale heart specimen showcases the majestic power of marine life – utterly breathtaking!
The interactive experiences are incredibly rich and had me thoroughly entertained. Using the "Whale Song Translator" to decode orca language made me feel like a marine biologist, and operating a robotic arm to dissect a sperm whale heart model satisfied my "dissection" cravings.
It's also a photography paradise! The azure light corridor makes you feel like you're in the underwater world of "Avatar," with light and shadows dancing on you – perfect for stunning photos. The specimen area offers a high-end vibe when you take wide-angle shots next to the Baird's beaked whale, and the dreamy water ripple lights turn anyone in a white dress into a mermaid princess in minutes.
Whether you're bringing kids to broaden their horizons or treating yourself to a feast of knowledge and visuals, this exhibit is perfect!
