Huaao (ao4) Island is located at the mouth of Sanmen Bay in the southern part of Xiangshan County, close to Taizhou City and adjacent to Shipu Port in the northeast. The island covers an area of ​​12.62 square kilometers. The island is named Hua'ao because of the many flowers and valleys on it. It is known as the "Fairyland on the Sea and Yingzhou City on Earth".
Huaao Island mainly includes three major landscapes: Dafo Mountain + Salt Field + Sea Stone Forest. Among them, Ao Salt Field is the only remaining handmade sea salt field in Zhejiang. The traditional method of salt drying is a major feature of Huaao. The Stone Forest at Sea is one of the three major volcanic rock primary landforms in the world, and is also a sea erosion and depositional landform. The most famous is the volcanic rock columnar joint landscape of Jeju Island. Huaao also belongs to the same landform as Jeju Island.
🚗Transportation strategy:
1. Round trip on the same day: Starting from downtown Ningbo, drive to Jingaoyi Wharf and take a ferry for ten minutes to reach the island. Huaao Wharf is visible to the naked eye on the opposite bank. It is very close. After getting on the wharf, you can see Dafoshan and Yantian in the distance a few hundred meters. It takes only 20 minutes to reach Shilin. The island's ring road has not yet been opened
2.2-day itinerary: Depart from Ningbo city to Dasha Village Beach in Hepu Town, then go to Fengmenkou Scenic Area, where you can see the Holy Elephant Stone Gate on foot, then stay overnight, and go to Jingaoyi Wharf to reach Hua'ao Island on the second day. On the way back, you can go to Shipu to eat seafood. Shi Nai and Xiangshan Yu Zi Noodles are both must-try.
🕙Opening hours: The ferry usually runs every 30 minutes, but recently many more have been added, so the waiting time will not be too long. The last ferry to Huaao Island usually leaves at 16:30 in the afternoon, so you should arrange your return time.
💰Ticket price: Free entry to the island. The Stone Forest is 40 per person; you need to make an appointment to visit the Salt Fields. If the weather is good, the Salt Fields and Dafoshan will be reflected, and it will feel like you are in the sky when you stand next to them.
🌟Highlights: There are two caves in Shilin, one of which is a popular cave. You can capture the outline of the entire cave and the silhouette of people with your mobile phone.
When the weather is good, people standing on the edge of the salt fields will have a mirror-like reflection, and the reflection of the Dafo Mountain behind it is very beautiful.
Changsha Village and Hua'ao Island both have large sandy beaches. The beach of Hua'ao Island can be passed on the way to Shilin, and there are mudflats where you can pick up some seafood.
📌Tips: 1. Remember to check the high and low tide times when going to the Stone Forest. If you go during low tide, you can reach a larger stone cave under the cable bridge. There will be fewer people there, and you can take photos of the Stone Forest behind.
2. You can make an appointment to visit the salt fields and ask for someone to dry the salt. It is suitable for photography enthusiasts to take humanistic photos.
3. There are two famous hotels with good connections halfway up the mountain in Dasha Village
4. Fengmenkou Scenic Area does not require tickets. There is also a beach and a small lawn for picnics, but you are not allowed to use fire.
