During the fierce battle between the Genpei and Taira clans, Minamoto Noriyori was ordered to pursue the Taira clan and prayed for lasting military fortune by inviting Atsuta Yatsururugi no Kami from his hometown in Mikawa Province (Aichi Prefecture).

It was destroyed by fire in 1558, but was later rebuilt and enshrined as the guardian deity of Honjo Village.

At the entrance, there is a guardian lion standing on its head, which is a rare sight.

The guardian lion is also drawn on the goshuin, which is beautiful.
There is only a few parking spaces, so it is better to walk or use public transportation during New Year's holidays.
