Himinomine Shrine was founded in September 860, when Dainichiryouki-no-Mikoto, the deity of Okishima Yakohi Shrine, was enshrined on the summit of Mount Hininomine, and two other deities, Hikohohodemi-no-Mikoto and Hosu-seri-no-Mikoto, were enshrined.

Himinomine Shrine is revered as the deity of safe maritime traffic. Today, it is deeply revered by people near and far as the deity of traffic safety, business prosperity, household safety, and life rituals. On the main festival day, October 18th, a kagura dance is offered, and rituals are continually performed, preserving and passing on history and culture.
